La Plata County: wildfire programs and mitigation help
Wildfire Adapted Partnership cost-share
Southwest Colorado's Wildfire Adapted Partnership runs the Durango area's defensible-space cost-share: a free Home Ignition Zone assessment, tree marking, then an award letter stating your reimbursement (varies by site size, vegetation, terrain). You pay the contractor in full and are partially reimbursed after completion. CSFS Durango keeps the contractor list.
| How it works | Free HIZ specialist assessment → tree marking → award letter with your amount → sign and return BEFORE work begins → complete and pay in full → partial reimbursement. |
|---|---|
| Award amounts | Deliberately not flat-rate: funding varies per project based on home site size, vegetation, and terrain — the award letter is the number that counts. |
| Contractor list | Colorado State Forest Service's Durango field office maintains the contractor list for the region. source ↗ |
